Smarter, simpler, wastewater solutions for new homes.

Building from the ground up? Mata provides reliable, flush-ready wastewater treatment without excavation or buried tanks — giving you flexibility now and in the future.

Mata Treatment Appliance

No pits, no excavators, no pump trucks.
Starting from scratch should be an opportunity — not a challenge. Traditional septic systems demand excavation, permits, and high upfront costs, while composting or dry systems can compromise comfort and convenience. The Mata system bridges that gap — providing a flush-ready, aboveground solution that’s easy to install, modular by design, and built for Hawai‘i’s terrain.

Install Process

01 | Source Separate Blackwater

Plumber separates your homes black and greywater lines.

02  |  Install Mata on Blackwater line

Mata requires one 120V outlet to plug in.

03  |  Connect System Lines + Vent

Connect effluent, emergency drain, overflow ports to disposal area or further treatment. Vent above roof line via existing or new vent stack.

04  |  Restart Cesspool

We recommend a pump out and sulphuric acid treatment to restart your cesspool on the right foot from day one.

01  |  Install Concrete Pad

A 3" concrete pad is installed to provide a stable foundation for your Mata.

03  |  Install Vent and Gravity Backup

The Mata is vented above your roofline while a gravity flow path to your leachfield is added in the event of a power failure.

02  |  Install Mata on Household Sewer

The Mata receives your 3" wastewater pipe at a minimum height of 16" above grade.

04  |  Install Low Pressure Liquid Discharge

The pumped liquid outlet is connected to additional treatment or directly to WaiHome's at-grade leachfield product.
North Shore Bungalow
This site showcases a holistic treatment system featuring WaiHome's Mata for solids separation, Patu for additional liquid treatment, and Sawa for excavation-free disposal under the deck.

Mata Maintenance

Mata separates solids from raw sewage and then dehydrates and steralizes them for disposal. The inclusion of two solids bins allows one bin to be filling while the second is drying. Solids are removed and the bins swapped once every 4-12 weeks depending on your usage.

Permitting Status

We are currently working with the University of Hawaii and regulators to make Mata a fully permitted solution.

Our work doesn’t stop there. We’re also developing:

Patu a passive aerobic treatment unit that polishes your liquid effluent.

Sawa — an excavation free leachfield product that tucks beneath a deck
