WaiHome is a small research and development startup founded in 2021 and located on the North Shore of Oahu, a place famous for surfing, and infamous for the illegal residential cesspools that pollute the idyllic coastline. WaiHome specializes in proprietary wastewater treatment and reuse solutions that the average homeowner in Hawaii can afford. The company is dedicated to turning the financial burden of wastewater treatment into an opportunity for sustainable and beautiful development.
We are looking for the right person to help tackle prototyping and water quality testing responsibilities on our line of developing products. This is a full-time role that requires an in-person presence at the office and pilot site in Pupukea.

Responsibilities:
- Support the prototyping and testing of proprietary wastewater disposal systems
- Characterize soil structure, wastewater infiltration rates and dispersal patterns to inform product development decisions
- Perform GIS analysis of Hawaiian soils maps and cesspool locations to inform a representative testing program
- Build water and research infrastructure
- Collect and test water and soil samples for nutrients and organics
- Document shifts in soil characteristics and impact on soil health
- Conduct market research to identify product needs
- Report testing methodology and experimental conclusions
- Help develop Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) grant proposals
Requirements:
- B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Engineering or Sciences
- Experience with site soil surveys
- Experience with designing and conducting experiments
- Technical writing experience
- Soil and water sampling experience
- Interpretation of results
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Adaptable, multi-faceted skill set
- Independent problem solving ability
- Team oriented personality
- Ability to quickly learn and tackle unfamiliar tasks
