Liquid Disposal Options

Wastewater passes through Mata, where solids are captured and treated. The remaining liquid continues on for on-site disposal in the form of a seepage pit or leachfield.

Mata to Seepage Pit 
Hawai‘i Department of Health regulations allow a cesspool to be redesignated as a seepage pit once primary treatment is installed upstream. To qualify, the cesspool must have a structural lining and pass an infiltration test confirming it still drains properly. Reusing the existing cesspool can save property owners significant cost when upgrading.
